Tao Yoga

Tao yoga or Do-In  uses soft stretching and sitting or lying down postures in order to conduct energy through the body for vitality, health and harmony.

As in all expositions of classical yoga, Tao yoga depends upon a certain quality of mind for it to be efficient.

Generally, tao yoga postures are less physically challenging than hatha yoga postures, yet the impact goes very deep. The emphasis on establishing the appropriate and most efficient state of mind before beginning a session begins to decondition the mind’s potential negative impact on the body and increase its potential positive impact.

Tao yoga in the Tao Meditation programme as taught by Ram is as much concerned with abandoning negative mind states as it is with achieving positive mind states. At a physical level, it is concerned with easing the body into postures rather than pushing the body to achieve.

It is this quality of relaxation that makes the practice highly efficient. With a relaxed, alert and correctly aligned mind  we can begin to experience the natural higher intelligence.  Natural intelligence reorganises the body energy, the emotions and the mental process supremely: it is the same force that animates and organises the natural world. At an energetic level, when undertaking postures, the higher natural intelligence re-organises the body’s energy beyond any personal view about what is necessary or required.

Tao yoga provides a supreme means to gain experience of how the personal and higher self can eventually work together.

The tao yoga programme is comprised of a series of short sets of postures-sitting or lying down which include short meditations. It can be a complete system or provide a foundation practice for meditation, movement or energetic restoration and maintenance.

All Tao meditation retreats include one session of Tao yoga each day.
